Attendees: Callah, Christopher, Denise, Heather, Lisa, Michelle, Nathan, Rhonda, and Tina...Cooper was there riding the spin bike :)
I am feeling a little on the lazy side so this recap might not be as long as some of the others!
The Hunger Games-most of us liked this book. It was an easy read and a page turner. Most of us had finished it so long ago that we didn't remember specific details. Denise didn't care for it as much as some of us and that is because she listened to a horrible reading of it. Denise played us some of the book and it sounded like a person talking to a bunch of little kids with the slowness and the tone of voice. Anyone would not like the book that much if it was read like that! It was almost unanimous that the ending sucked. Most of us thought that she could have done a better job at wrapping the book up and still making it so that the next book would continue on with the first. I read the second and I liked it more than the first, but I know that Valesca didn't :) We talked a little about how they are going to be making a movie of it and what the movie would be like. That was about it for that book.
Push (Precious)-for this one we talked both about the book and the movie. For the members that watched the movie and read the book we thought that it was a pretty accurate portrayal of the novel to film. Some of us thought that the movie was better than the book. Mo'Nique did an awesome job portraying the mom and we all agreed that the last scene with her was the best! A few of us wanted to walk out of the movie because it was so disturbing and we all know that this story is what actual people do go through.
We also had some fun talking about Chi Running and the clinic that Rhonda and Christopher did. Tina told us some stories about The Biggest Loser. Callah made some delicious peanut butter cookies and had to go home early because she was sick from the kiddos (we hope that you are feeling better Callah!). Denise made some awesome french bread and talked about all of her bread adventures (and food adventures). There was a story she told about a restaurant that was in a kitchen (I forgot the name of it). We had some yummy snacks and wine :)
Next book club is on TUESDAY MARCH 23rd. We are hoping that some of our long lost members will join us! I honestly can't remember what book we decided on reading for the next one. I know that Christopher was tired of "Vagina books" and he is currently into reading nonfiction. So, here are the two that it was between. Rhonda, can you tell me what book it was that we chose?
Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman by John Krakauer http://www.amazon.com/Where-Men-Win-Glory-Odyssey/dp/0385522266/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265344975&sr=8-1 Christopher is currently reading this book and suggested it and said that he is enjoying it so far. John's books have been pretty good in the past too.
or
Moloka'i by Alan Brennert http://www.amazon.com/Molokai-Large-Print-Alan-Brennert/dp/1429943238/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265345141&sr=1-1 Perhaps we can read both of them since book club was moved back a little?
Lastly, it seems as though some people are not getting these emails from me :( If you get this email can you let me know? I just want to know who is not getting it. Also, sorry about the junk emails that come after I send out updates!
